Shockwave Therapy

Harpenden Osteopaths are delighted to now be able to offer shockwave therapy.

Shockwave therapy is a safe, non-invasive treatment for soft-tissue injuries, where high energy sound waves are applied to the site of injury promoting healing.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends shockwave therapy for the following conditions:

  • Heel pain/ Plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles tendon pain
  • Hip pain (gluteal tendinopathy)
  • Tennis elbow
  • Shoulder pain (calcific tendinopathy)

As well as proving beneficial in many other musculoskeletal conditions such as knee pain from patella tendinopathy, shin splints, golfer's elbow and upper hamstring pain..

The advantages of shockwave therapy are:

  • Pain relief
  • High success rates
  • Fast results (usually just 3-5 treatments over 3-5 weeks)
  • Non Invasive
  • No medication
  • Minimal complications
  • Succeeds where other treatments have failed
  • 70-90% significant or total resolution in difficult chronic cases

At Harpenden Osteopaths we use class leading Storz Medical radial and focus shockwave equipment, designed and built in Switzerland, which is used in some of the leading orthopaedic centres in the country. having access to both forms of shockwave enables us to treat a wider variety of conditions and achieve more effective results.
